On the outskirts of Playa del Carmen, Shangri-La Caribe Beach Resort offers a rustic flavor with a tone of elegance. A thatch-roofed community complete with two pools and tropical gardens it is situated right on the beach. The rooms are neatly and attractively furnished with either a king or two double beds, private baths and ceiling fans. Lovely touches of Mexican tile and woodwork abound. Daily maid service is, of course, provided and there's an ample supply of purified, bottled water in each room. A front porch with hammocks satisfies the modern Robinson Crusoe's quest for leisure and escape with just enough of the necessary comforts.

And there are tropical fruits, a feast for eye and palate, always available - and there are specialty buffets and real Mexican treats and open-air cookouts around the pool - services designed to complement the pleasure of a visit to Shangri-la.
