Tortugas is located in a delightfully lush little tropical garden. Two romantic "round palapas", 9 charming accommodations built in the ancient Mayan tradition with wooden supports and woven palm thatched roofs make Tortugas a dreamland oasis on one of the last tranquil, natural, tropical islands.

Things to do

What could be better that just walking and sunbathing? Well…
There are several choices: Cross the island to lovely deserted beaches, or visit the nearby islands, like Pajaros. You can observe wild animals and birds. The local fishermen will be glad to take you out fishing for lobsters, barracuda and sea trout or you can go snorkeling or SCUBA diving.

Whale Sharks are off Holbox in July, August and September and tours are offered so that you can swim and view “at close range" these, the largest fish in the sea.
Holbox is one of the few places in the world offering this opportunity.
Tours to swim with the dolphins in the wild are also offered.

Off island excursions are also offered to visit "Ojo de Agua" - “The Eye of the water”, Mayan archeological sites, caverns and cenotes, the lush jungle, and Mayan villages nestled in the Yucatan forest. Scenic flights are available with ultra light planes.
"Casa Las Tortugas" can organize ways to make your vacation more complete and enjoyable including arranging private boats, taxi/van service on the mainland, and even air-taxis.

A little about Holbox
A picturesque, rustic paradise there are no discos, cars, banks, shopping malls or fancy restaurants. You mobile phone won't work on this island of friendly fishermen. You can rent a "carrito" (golf cart), a bicycle, a kayak or a small boat and explore the white beaches and hunt shells, and birds. Enjoy the whispering breeze and the enchantment of the turquoise Gulf of Mexico merging with the Caribbean sea. An enchanting place.

The Hotelito "Las Tortugas" is on this island of Holbox in the "Yum Balam" Biosphere Natural Park where the tropical mangroves grow and where you can see iguanas, pink flamingos, pelicans, frigate birds, cormorants and sea swallows. The clear green waters are teeming with magnificent sea creatures: dolphins, barracuda, devil fish, Carey tortoises and whale sharks.
